Dr. Spicer speaking
Jill Anderson

As McLennan Community College (MCC) celebrates its milestone 60th anniversary, the institution is set to host a historic Spring Commencement ceremony tonight, May 12, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. honoring a record number of graduates. The event, held at Baylor University’s Ferrell Center, will feature a keynote address from our very own Superintendent, Dr. Tiffany Spicer.

Dr. Spicer’s invitation to speak serves as a recognition of her dynamic leadership and the deepening collaboration between Waco ISD and MCC. Among the approximately 530 students receiving degrees and certificates, 73 are high school students completing their associate degrees before their high school diplomas. Notably, 37 of these dual-credit graduates are from Waco ISD, a testament to the effective collaboration spearheaded by district and college leadership.

Reflecting on the significance of the ceremony, Dr. Spicer notes that the success of these students, whether they are entering the workforce immediately with a certification or pursuing advanced degrees at prestigious universities, represents a historic shift for our community.

"My 'why' is seeing students stand here today who, without the partnership between our districts and MCC, might not have had this opportunity," Dr. Spicer said. "This is why we, educators, do what we do! Thank you MCC and our local districts around the county who provide opportunities and access for our students to become the FIRSTS! Thank you students for reminding us of our WHY! Thank you for changing generations."

Since joining Waco ISD in October 2024, Dr. Spicer has been recognized for her commitment to equity, access, and transparent communication. With over 20 years of experience in public education, ranging from the classroom to various administrative roles, she has consistently focused on ensuring all students reach their fullest potential. Her leadership recently earned her national acclaim as a "Superintendent to Watch" for the 2025–26 school year by the National School Public Relations Association.

Building on her commitment to educational excellence, Dr. Spicer will join the College in honoring the hundreds of students set to receive their credentials tonight. The commencement will honor students earning Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Sciences, and Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees, as well as various Certificates of Completion.

For those unable to attend the ceremony in person at the Ferrell Center, a livestream will be provided at https://www.mclennan.edu/records/Commencement/2026-spring/index.html.
