Austin Kawamura joined University High School
in 2025 as the Director of Athletic Performance.
A five-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps,
Coach Kawamura brings a decade of experience
in high-level athletic development to
the Trojan program.
Professional Background & Education
Coach Kawamura holds a Bachelor of Science
in Kinesiology from Tarleton State University
and is pursuing a Master of Science in Strength
and Human Performance. He is a Certified Strength
and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through
the NSCA and a Specialist in
Sports Nutrition through the ISSA.
Coaching Successes
Prior to University High, Coach Kawamura
established a track record of success
at the high school level:
Gordon ISD: Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Helped the program to its first State Championships
since 1996, including two undefeated Football
state titles, two Men’s Track state titles,
and a Basketball State Semi-Final.
Performance Course: Assistant Strength
Coach for Tolar High School Football’s
first-ever State Championship appearance.
Collegiate & Industry Experience
Tarleton State University:
Completed a three-year NCAA Division 1
internship under Master Strength Coach
Rod Cole, working with Football, Men’s
and Women’s Basketball, Track & Field, and Cheer.
Speaker: Featured presenter at the T
exas Six-Man Coaches Association
(TSMCA) annual clinic on strength
and conditioning methodologies for football.
Coach Kawamura utilizes evidence-based
training to ensure University High
athletes reach their full physical
and mental potential.
